The Emporia State women and men left Pittsburg with wins over Pittsburg State Thursday night.
The Emporia State women overcame another sluggish start to outscore Pittsburg State 65-58. The Lady Hornets trailed 22-9 after the first quarter and were down by 14 points with over 4 minutes to play in the 2nd quarter but rallied to tie the score at 31 at halftime. It was not until the 4th quarter when they would take control of the game, outscoring Pitt State 22-14 in the final 10 minutes of play.
Coach Toby Wynn was happy to get the victory.
Daley Handy had a career night scoring a career-high 18 points and grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds. Fredricka Sheats added 17 points and Karsen Schultz finished with 13 points. The Lady Hornets improved 17-4 for the season.
The Emporia State men rolled to a 78-57 win over Pittsburg State. The Hornets used a 16-4 run in the first half to build a double-digit lead and never looked back.
Coach Craig Doty was proud of the effort.
Jumah’Ri Turner led the way with 27 points.
Austin Downing added 22 points.
The Hornets led 42-27 at halftime and outscored the Gorillas 36-30 in the 2nd half. The Hornets improve to 11-10 for the season.
Emporia State women and men close out the regular season at Washburn on Saturday.
