For years, the National Weather Service has coordinated the statewide tornado drill on Tuesday of Severe Weather Awareness Week. And for years, Lyon County has not participated.
Neither trend ends this year.
Severe Weather Awareness Week begins Monday, and unless the forecast changes, the annual tornado drill will take place as scheduled Tuesday afternoon. However, Lyon County has had its weekly tornado siren test at noon Mondays for several years, and the county says it will stay with that approach again this year.
In the meantime, National Weather Service meteorologists Chance Hayes and Chad Omitt will join KVOE’s Newsmaker 3 segment around 8:45 am Monday with more information about Severe Weather Awareness Week and spotter training sessions.
