Emporia Police are investigating after an unusual crash early Friday.
The wreck at South and Market was reported shortly before 5 am. Details are pending, but a car on Market and a pickup on South collided. The car was pushed through a fire hydrant, spraying water both into the vehicle and across the intersection. Both vehicles narrowly missed a utility pole in the northeast corner of the intersection.
Police Sgt. Rob Turner says the early indications are the car ran a stop sign right before the crash. One person inside the car apparently fled the scene and is being sought at this time. The other person involved was not hurt.
Emporia Fire was called to help with a potential vehicle fire involving the truck and stayed on scene when it was determined the possible fire was a false alarm.
The investigation continues. We’ll have updates on KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media when those are announced.
