Emporia’s Underground Utilities Department has had quite the Friday morning.
Before Friday morning’s crash that knocked out a fire hydrant at South and Market, Public Works was already in the middle of a project to fix a 3-inch water line that failed on East Sixth just north of the Bunge crush facility. Bunge has not said whether it had to adjust its operations after the water line issue was reported. The 500 block of East — on the west side of the crush facility — had two street cutouts after water line issues connected to severe cold over a week ago as well as a third line break near the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks.
Grant says repairs on East will likely need a consultation with BNSF because the water line runs under the railroad.
