A search continues for dogs that fled the scene of a crash in Marion County that killed two Emporians and a Salina man on Friday.
As many as 20 dogs were being transported in a trailer pulled by 70-year-old James Potter of Emporia when Potter’s pickup was struck head-on by a minivan driven by 30-year-old Nathan Puett of Salina. The wreck happened on US Highway 56 outside Hillsboro shortly after noon.
Potter and his wife, 61-year-old Jody Potter, were killed in the wreck along with Puett. Two children in Puett’s van were taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for suspected serious injuries.
Three dogs were found dead at the scene. The Marion County Emergency Management Office says one to three dogs may still be missing. The conditions of the dogs found since Friday afternoon have not been announced.
