An Emporia woman accused of having stolen guns, a stolen vehicle and illegal drugs in her possession over a month ago was in Lyon County District Court Monday.
Mariel Gwinn Ascencio, also known as Mariel Martin, waived her right to a preliminary hearing while appearing before Judge Doug Jones Monday afternoon. Ascencio is now set for a pretrial hearing at 2 pm on Apr. 2nd.
Also during the hearing, Judge Jones approved a cash/own recognizance split bond for Ascencio. Prosecutors advised they were against approval of the bond due to concerns of Ascencio’s “willingness to continue appearing” under her own recognizance.
Ascencio Ascencio has been charged with numerous criminal counts — including possession of stolen property; theft of a firearm; felon in possession of a firearm; heroin distribution; cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine and paraphernalia possession and paraphernalia use — after being arrested at Emporia’s Budget Host inn, 1830 East Highway 50, in mid-December.
Ascencio and Wyatt Everly were both arrested in the case with Everly being charged with possession of stolen property; theft of a firearm; meth and paraphernalia possession; and paraphernalia use.
