Are you experiencing any confusion regarding the moratoriums on evictions and whether or not you qualify?
Thankfully there are those who can help clear up any and all confusion-free of charge such as Housing and Credit Counseling Inc. According to HCCI Landlord and Tennant Counselor Teresa Baker, recently they have taken a number of calls from tenants who are unclear whether or not they are protected under the moratoriums, specifically the moratorium enacted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which continues through the end of this month.
According to Baker, one of the most important aspects for that moratorium is residents declaring that they meet specific guidelines to qualify for the moratorium.
Baker says with the number of stipulations included it is important that residents who may be unclear on the qualifications to contact HCCI so they can assist them with the process. Baker also says tenants need to have a full understanding of the material so they can “check every box” of requirements and ensure they qualify for the moratorium.
Additionally, Baker says tenants will need to communicate with their landlords to ensure they understand the situation to avoid any confusion or potential eviction. A separate moratorium enacted by Governor Laura Kelly also continues through Mar. 31.
