More vaccines are coming to Lyon County as the county looks to increase both the number of people vaccinated and the number of eligible categories for the shots.
Lyon County has a prime vaccination clinic underway Thursday for K-12 education staffers, daycare providers and meatpacking employees, expanding on the recent Phase 2 focus on people over age 65. It also has a combination clinic Friday involving primary doses of the Pfizer vaccine and secondary doses of the Moderna vaccine.
On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Thursday, Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern said it’s time to expand to the rest of Phase 2 and start looking at getting Phase 3 residents vaccinated.
Phase 3 also involves people ages 16-64 with “severe” medical risks.
Millbern says there is very little leeway at the county level as to the state’s plan for phased vaccinations. Any major deviation from the plan could well result in the state withholding doses from the county. The Public Health website will be updating soon to indicate who is eligible for Phase 2 and Phase 3 vaccinations.
This comes as the Health Center is going up from around 600 available doses per week to around 1,200, and it comes with Johnson & Johnson doses entering the fold as soon as next week. As was the case last week, the Health Center plans to use Haag Pharmacy and Newman Regional Health for prime doses.
Haag Pharmacy will get 100 doses.
As mentioned Wednesday, Lyon County Public Health will stop taking names of seniors wanting to get on the county’s vaccination wait list at the close of business Friday. Residents can still get on the list through 5 pm Friday by going online to www.publichealth.lyoncounty.org or by calling the COVID-19 Hotline at 620-208-3741, but after that people will go on the vaccination notification list for information and updates.
