Fort Hays State outscored the Emporia State women 77-72 in the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament Saturday.
Fort Hays led at the end of the 1st quarter 18-16. They would extend the lead to 31-26 at halftime.
Emporia State made a run in the 3rd quarter to take a 46-38 lead halfway thru the 3rd quarter. Fort Hays would tie the game at 52 going into the 4th quarter.
Fort Hays outscored the Lady Hornets 25-20 in the 4th quarter. The Tigers made 5 of 6 free throws in the final 11 seconds to seal the win.
Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn said they did not make enough plays at the end.
Fredricka Sheats and Ehlaina Hartman both finished with 16 points to lead Emporia State. Karsen Schultz added 12 points. Tre’ Zure Jobe was held to 9 points and sets at 999 points scored for her career.
Emporia State will have to wait until Sunday night’s selection show to find out if they receive an at-large NCAA tournament bid.
