The Annual Emporia St. David’s Day Concert is coming up this weekend with some COVID-19 related alterations.
The 133rd annual concert will not be taking place in person this year and will instead be streaming live on Facebook. The program will contain all of the traditional aspects the concert has showcased in year’s past including traditional Welsh music, poetry readings from the works of celebrated Welsh poet Dylan Thomas and the playing of bells.
The concert is organized by the St. David’s Society of Kansas. Member Jennifer Baldwin recently joined KVOE’s Morning Show to discuss this year’s concert and says while they wish they could all be together in person, organizing this year’s concert has been an exciting venture.
As some do not have access to the internet or Facebook, St. David’s Society member Jann Briggs says two local churches will be opening their doors to the public to view the concert.
The concert is scheduled to begin at 2:30 pm Sunday and will be viewable on the St. David’s Society of Kansas Facebook page. If you are unable to view the concert as it takes place it will be archived on YouTube following its completion for viewing at a later time.
