Project Playscape’s latest improvement project in Americus will take shape soon.
Fundraising has generated over $380,000 for a new baseball complex. Organizer Britney Hinrichs says this will add two fields and a small playground complex while taking out an unusable field. Demolition could begin this month, with a tentative goal of starting construction in April and finishing work by August.
Hinrichs says fundraising has done well, with a “Wall of Money,” T-shirt sales and a biscuits-and-gravy breakfast event last month chipping in over $8,000 — triggering an $8,000 match from Matt and Stacie Horton.
More donations followed to push the total closer to the $400,000 goal, and fundraising continues through the purchase of bricks as well as an art auction through March 27.
Project Playscape was developed in 2010 to fund a new playground. Once that was installed, Project Playscape raised money for more playground equipment. Now the committee looks out for improvement projects like the baseball field and committee members are looking ahead to funding a new splash pad when the baseball complex is done.
