Tuition will be increasing slightly at Flint Hills Technical College next year.
During the FHTC Board of Directors meeting Monday afternoon the board approved a $5 increase on general credits. College President Dean Hollenbeck says the increase, while not large, was necessary due to a combination of COVID-19’s impact on enrollment and the “cost of doing business” increasing steadily.
Hollenbeck says the tuition increase will not “solve all of the problems” so the college is looking into other efforts to help increase revenues over the next year. He says the major focus at this time is increasing enrollment which was down this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hollenbeck says the majority of the college’s funding comes from how many students walk through the door.
Hollenbeck says this is not a Tech College-specific issue as higher learning institutions across the country have been facing difficult budget-related decisions due to drops in enrollment brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In other businesses, the board also approved changes to facility and operations policy when it comes to the naming of college facilities and the 2020 audit from Jarred, Gilmore and Phillips, LLC.
The board will reconvene for its next monthly meeting in April.
