The Kansas Department of Labor has been beset by fraud over the past several months as it works to get unemployment benefits to those who need them. The latest scam effort deals with social media.
The department says a number of fraudulent accounts are now up impersonating the legitimate information from the Labor Department. The fake accounts look legit, but there are a few ways you can tell if they aren’t:
*Account spelling errors or letters replaced by numbers
*Incorrect social media handle (KDOL Facebook and Twitter handle is @KansasDOL)
*Small following.
*Incorrect address, email or website
If you get a message from a suspect or blatantly fake social media account, do not click on any links in the email and do not provide any personal information. You can report the correspondence to www.reportfraud.ks.gov.
Also, be sure to use www.GetKansasBenefits.gov or www.PUA.GetKansasBenefits.gov to access your benefits account.
