Emporia Firefighters responded to a minor grass fire at the David Traylor Zoo Tuesday afternoon.
Crews were called to the zoo shortly before 1:30 pm for a reported grass fire that began after sparks from construction work on the zoo’s entrance ignited a small patch of grass. The fire spread to some nearby wood pallets and was extinguished by construction workers before the fire could spread.
No injuries or damage to structures were reported. Only a few feet of grass were scorched as a result.
