Recent dry, windy conditions have brought abnormally dry conditions back to much of the KVOE listening area.
The US Drought Monitor report issued Thursday shows almost all of Lyon and Osage counties, as well as all of Chase, Morris and Wabaunsee counties, in abnormally dry status. Northwest Greenwood County is also abnormally dry.
The rest of the area, including Coffey County, is listed as normal.
Lyon County hasn’t had any measurable rainfall since 1.2 inches on Jan. 30. The area did have up to four inches of light, dry snowfall Feb. 15.
The area had been out of abnormally dry conditions since late January. Moderate drought had plagued much of the area last fall into early this year.
