Damage estimates and a cause are currently pending following a house fire in south Emporia Friday afternoon.
Emporia Firefighters were called to 501 Elm Street shortly after 1 pm for a reported house fire. Flames were visible from the outside of the home upon the arrival of fire crews on scene. The flames were located in a bedroom of the home.
Crews managed to extinguish the fire quickly and rescued three dogs from the dwelling according to Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage. No residents were home at the time of the fire.
The cause and origination point of the fire are under investigation at this time.
