Unemployment numbers had a notable decrease across Kansas from December to January.
Jobless rates went down from 4.7 percent to 3.5 percent. Acting Labor Secretary Amber Shultz says improvement continues after the COVID-19 pandemic hammered the state economy a year ago, but she also says we aren’t back to pre-pandemic levels yet.
Not all the numbers were down. In fact, Emporia’s jobless rate went from 4.2 to 6.2 percent and Lyon County had a jobless rate jump from 4 percent to 5.6 percent.
Area numbers varied by the county, but the trend here was up across the board as all area counties had increased jobless rates for January.
