A special enrollment period continues for people interested in getting health insurance through the federal marketplace.
The open enrollment period goes through May 15. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas Corporate Communication Manager Katrina McGivern says COVID-19 has definitely emphasized the need for health insurance protections.
People under age 65 are eligible to enroll and people don’t need a “life-changing” event like a divorce, marriage or change of job to enroll.
People without health insurance can choose from standard or high-deductible plans. People already with insurance plans can go back in and make changes. They might also qualify for tax credits, depending on their situations, and McGivern says the federal government is looking at possibly expanding the credits so more people can qualify.
More information is available online at www.healthcare.gov as well as participating insurance companies. Flint Hills Community Health Center also has a Navigator trained to help with the health insurance process. People can call 342-4864 for more information.
