Osage County residents got placed in a tornado warning Monday afternoon.
The National Weather Service issued the warning for severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes near Lyndon and Pomona Lake around 3:40 pm. So far, no tornadic activity has been confirmed.
The warning came shortly after a significant weather advisory alerting Osage County residents of the prospect for storm activity, including funnel clouds. The Weather Service says the atmosphere supports funnel clouds that last a few minutes and normally don’t lower to the ground — and they rarely cause much damage if they get to ground level. However, Osage County residents should remain alert and be ready to move to their shelter spaces if funnel clouds approach. A separate advisory issued just before 5 pm now extends that situation to Morris and Wabaunsee counties through 6 pm.
