Heavy rainfall from the past weekend and early Wednesday, coupled with more rain chances later in the day, are poised to push one area river out of its banks.
The Marais des Cygnes River above Reading is in a flood warning until late Thursday night. The National Weather Service says the river will go above the 19-foot flood stage Wednesday afternoon to 21 feet by evening. It will fall to around 17.7 feet before rising around midnight and cresting at 22.6 feet by Thursday afternoon. The river should go below flood stage before sunset.
At 21 feet, Road Y-5 floods near the gauge. At 23 feet, the overflow on the right bank goes into several so-called swift channels over Y-5.
An urban and small stream flood advisory for parts of Coffey and Osage counties near Waverly has been allowed to expire. No flooding has been reported at this time.

*South and Sylvan: 1.3 inches
*Allen: 0.70 inches
*Between Hartford and Olpe: 0.80 inches
*Neosho Rapids: 1.1 inches
*Reading: 1 inch
This follows anywhere from 1 to 2.5 inches of rain this past weekend.
A wind advisory is up for Chase and Greenwood counties from 1 pm Wednesday to 1 am Thursday, reflecting the chance of wind gusts as high as 40 mph. Snow showers could also be widespread Thursday morning, but no accumulation is expected.
