SOS Services is one of 35 agencies in the state of Kansas to be named a grant recipient to assist with support for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors.
The grants were announced by Governor Laura Kelly Friday and will see more than $2 million awarded to Kansas communities through the Federal Services, Training, Officers, and Prosecutors Violence Against Women Formula Grant Program (S.T.O.P. VAWA) and The Federal Sexual Assault Services Program.
The S.T.O.P. VAWA grant funds assist communities in developing enhanced law enforcement and prosecution strategies to combat violent crimes against women including sexual and domestic assault, rape, dating violence and stalking. SASP funding is dedicated to assisting with direct intervention and related assistance for victims of sexual assault and their families by supporting sexual assault and rape crisis centers such as SOS.
In a news release, Governor Kelly states, “We have a responsibility to do all we can to protect victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. These grants will strengthen our services and provide support to those who need it most.”
SOS is receiving just over $23,000 in SASP funding. Grant funds are made available through the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women.
