The Department of Veterans Affairs has been hard at work allocating COVID-19 vaccinations to area veterans.
During a recent conversation with KVOE News, VA Regional Spokesman Joseph Burks says the VA has administered around 21,000 doses to veterans to date. Burks says the VA is receiving around 500 doses per week per campus, however, on more than one occasion they have received far more.
Burks adds they are also utilizing robocalls to contact area veterans about vaccine availability.
According to Burks, the VA has received shipments of all three vaccines currently available including the Moderna and Pfizer two-dose vaccines and the single-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
Vaccination efforts come as the VA is increasing its outreach to local veterans amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Burks says the VA is currently dedicated to “reclaim the summer” reaching out to area veterans who have yet to enroll with the VA.
Outreach efforts will continue in the coming weeks as the VA is planning to be in attendance for the annual World of Wheels Car Show in Kansas City, Mo Mar. 26 and 27th and will be holding a special open enrollment fair on Apr. 28.
