This is the week where the state of Kansas’ vaccination effort jumps from phase two to a combination of phases three and four.
This will mean all phase 1-4 eligible residents can now receive a vaccine with self-scheduling now open for this week’s prime vaccination clinic Thursday at the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building. Those who secure a spot for this week’s clinic will receive the single-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
According to Lyon County Public Health Incident Commander Renee Hively on KVOE’s weekly COVID-19 Vaccination Briefing Monday, Public Health has 1,400 doses available with just over 200 open slots still available as of Monday morning. Hively says the Johnson and Johnson vaccine has been a popular choice amongst local residents for an obvious reason.
Hively reminds residents the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is only available for residents aged 18 and older. The National Guard will once again be on hand to assist with this week’s clinic.
Monday also marks the one-year anniversary of the first COVID-19 case in Lyon County and Hively says she believes Public Health has done a “really good job” in responding to the pandemic over the past 12 months. She adds, the county’s handling of the pandemic has been additionally impressive when you consider that just a year ago, nobody anticipated a pandemic of this magnitude would likely occur.

The COVID-19 Vaccination Briefing featuring Flint Hills Community Health Center CEO Renee Hively will be at 8:20 am Monday. Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern will be on Thursday at 7:15 am.
