Mask use in Chase County will no longer be mandatory.
The Chase County Commission chose to opt-out of Governor Laura Kelly’s mask mandate during a special session Tuesday morning. Commission Chairman Tony Hazelton says the commission felt it was the right time to make the move based on current metrics with the county having just two active cases as of Tuesday morning.
While mask use is no longer mandatory, Hazelton says the commission is still strongly encouraging it when social distancing is not possible in public settings. Commissioners are also still stressing the importance of proper hand hygiene, social distancing and staying home when sick or unwell to continue limiting the spread of COVID-19.
Hazelton says business owners in the county will now have the authority to regulate mask use inside their businesses as they see fit. He adds, the county has managed to fully vaccinate 500 residents at this time with another 1,000 residents having received an initial vaccine dose.
Hazelton says there are no plans at this time for lifting additional restrictions, however, conversations on that front will occur on a case by case basis.
