The season is scheduled to begin for the Emporia High track and field teams Thursday. The Start of the softball season will have to wait. The doubleheader against Wamego has been postponed due to wet fields.
The Emporia High track and field teams are scheduled to compete at the Topeka West Invitational.
Coach Randy Wells says they will need to develop some athletes.
Senior Taryn West, who qualified for state as a sophomore in the 800, is one of the returning state qualifiers.
Taryn will be competing in the 800, the triple jump, and as part of the 4 by 800 relay.
Senior Zachary Jackson also went to state as a sophomore.
Zachary will be competing in the 100, 200 and as part of the 4 by 100 relay.
The Softball team will now open their season next Friday at Highland Park.
Aaron Hammond takes over as the head coach says they will be young but they do have some experience.
Kaylee Thomas is the lone senior on the team and was looking forward to opening the season.
The doubleheader with Wamego has been rescheduled for April 23rd.
