The Emporia State softball team split a doubleheader with Fort Hays State Saturday.
The Lady Hornets won the first game 5-0 behind the 7 hit shutout tossed by Kelsey Phillips who also was 3 for 3 at the plate with 3 RBI.
Fort Hays won the 2nd game 7-5. Fort Hays scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning and never did give up the lead. The Tigers scored 3 runs in the 4th inning to take a 7-0 lead.
Emporia State tried to rally scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th, adding a single run in the 5th, and scored 2 more runs in the 7th but it was not enough.
Emporia State did win 3 of 4 games played this weekend, Coach April Rosales says they need to and can be better.
The Emporia State softball team is now 13-9 for the season and 3-3 in the MIAA. They will play a Rockhurst on Wednesday.
