Overall, February’s unemployment rate dipped slightly from the rate announced for January.
The state jobless rate was 3.2 percent last month, down from 3.4 percent in January. Acting Labor Secretary Amber Shultz:
Areawide, there was a jobless spike in the January report, and results were mixed in the February data. Emporia had its jobless rate fall from 6.2 percent to 4.2 percent, while Lyon County went down from 5.6 percent to 4.2 percent. Chase County’s jobless rate declined by over a full percentage point, but Coffey County was flat, Greenwood and Morris counties had minimal decreases and Osage and Wabaunsee counties had slight increases.
Chase County has the area’s lowest unemployment rate at 3.2 percent. Osage County has the highest at 4.6 percent.
