Lyon County continues its push to get residents vaccinated from COVID-19.
Monday is the day where the state moves into Phase 5 of the vaccination process, meaning all adults above the age of 18 who want a shot can get one. ON KVOE’s COVID-19 Vaccination Briefing on Monday, Flint Hills Community Health Center CEO Renee Hively said the vaccine process has sped up — even though the number of doses hasn’t kept up with demand.
Lyon County has vaccinated over 11,000 residents, or about a third of the county’s estimated population of 33,400.
Hively says the Health Center tested how many people it could safely get vaccinated during last week’s clinic, and over 1,400 people took advantage of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building.
This week’s schedule will be busy and a bit different than normal. Instead of having the primary and booster clinics on separate days, both will be held simultaneously Friday. There will be 600 Moderna doses available for primary doses, with a combination of Moderna and Pfizer doses on hand for those needing second shots. Spots are available and can be scheduled online at www.publichealth.lyoncounty.org.
More Johnson & Johnson doses won’t be available until at least next week.
Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern will join KVOE’s 7:15 am Newsmaker segment Thursday with more information about the county’s ongoing response to COVID-19.
