So far so smooth, that’s the report from USD 253 Emporia Superintendent Allison Anderson-Harder on the district’s return to full-time learning at the secondary level Monday.
The district officially welcomed back all students to Emporia Middle School and Emporia High Monday morning. Dr. Anderson-Harder says upon entering the buildings there was a clear positive energy amongst all individuals inside.
Dr. Anderson-Harder went on to say the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s change of social distancing guidelines from six feet to three feet have given the district an abundance of flexibility with the increased occupancy.
In addition to adhering to social distancing, Anderson-Harder praised students for sticking to additional mitigation strategies, particularly mask use. In terms of students who chose to shift their attendance — either from remote to in-person and vice versa — Anderson-Harder says she does not have exact figures, however, it appears the change was relatively even.
While day one has gone well, Anderson-Harder says the district has several plans in place to account for any sudden spikes or outbreaks of coronavirus if they should occur in the coming weeks.
