The Emporia State baseball team held on for a 10-9 win over Pittsburg State Tuesday night.
The Hornets built a 5-0 lead scoring a run in the 2nd inning and 2 runs in both the 3rd and 5th innings.
Pittsburg State tied the game with 4 runs in the 5th and a run in the 6th. Pitt State added 2 runs in the 7th to take a 7-5 lead.
Emporia State responded with a 5 run 8th inning. They scored the 5 runs on 5 hits, all singles. Pitt State scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th.
Brady Michel was 3 for 5 and 2 RBI. Sam Chaput drove in 2 runs and Blake Carroll hit a solo home run. Colton Crips was the winning pitcher.
The Hornets play a 3 game series at Newman in Wichita beginning Friday.
Emporia State pitcher Jake Barton has been named the MIAA pitcher of the week for the second time this season.
He tossed a 4 hit shutout against Rogers State in a 10-0 win.
