Morris County is ending two COVID-19 mitigation strategies.
Morris County commissioners have canceled the mass gathering order and the mandatory mask order, saying the recent passage of Senate Bill 40 “creates legal liabilities to counties who pass public health orders” to battle the virus — including the potential for lawsuits by any “aggrieved” party. This came against the guidance of Health Officer Dr. Daniel Frese, who mentioned three recent cases of the UK variant in Topeka and six new overall cases of COVID-19 in Morris County over the past week.
Morris County commissioners are recommending mask use, social distancing, vaccinations and adherence to all recommendations coming from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Morris County business owners still have the right to require mask use and set occupancy limits if they choose.
