The very high fire danger seen across the KVOE listening area Sunday led to limited grass fire activity.
Hartford-Neosho Rapids and Lyon County District 4 fire crews went to 1141 Road T after a controlled burn from Saturday rekindled. Fire Chief Greg Zumbrunn says about 40 acres burned before the fire was brought under control. No injuries or structural damage was reported.
Emporia firefighters handled two small grass fires Sunday afternoon, going to the 2900 block of West 24th after a small grass fire from Saturday rekindled for the second time. A handful of logs caught fire and were disposed of quickly.
Firefighters also went to 1751 Road 175 for a fire that burned less than half an acre before it was handled. The cause of that fire is undetermined.
A very high fire danger returns for the KVOE listening area Monday with high temperatures in the 80s, low humidity levels, south winds as high as 30 mph and dry grasses in place. Outdoor burns will be discouraged for most of Lyon County but will be banned in the Emporia city limits because of wind speeds above 15 mph.
