The crossing arm situation at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe crossing at CommerciL Street has been fixed.
Railroad crews repaired the southbound crossing arm that fell to the ground Friday afternoon. Emporia Police used an SUV to block southbound traffic for a time after the incident was reported.
The railroad has not said why the crossing arm failed.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe is making emergency repairs after a crossing arm in downtown Emporia failed Friday.
The incident was reported to Emporia Police shortly before 2:30 pm. There is currently no indication of why the arm affecting southbound traffic failed and came down to the ground.
Emporia Police is monitoring the situation and has used an SUV to block southbound traffic before BNSF arrived. It is unclear when the arm will be repaired or replaced and traffic can return to normal.
