Progress is on schedule and on budget within USD 253 Emporia Public Schools as phase one of the Building for the Future bond initiative continues.
That was the report from senior project coordinator Eric Woltje of McCownGordon construction during an interview with KVOE Monday morning. The current phase of work has construction ongoing at Walnut Elementary, Emporia High School and the new Jones Early Childhood Education Center.
Woltje says for the most part work is on schedule at all three facilities and all of the work has kept in line with the pre-approved master budget. Woltje says construction crews have done a great job of taking advantage of opportunities to get the “noisy work” done without disrupting the learning environment.
According to Woltje, work on Walnut is roughly 50 percent complete at this time. The new addition to EHS is anticipated to be complete by September of next year and current expectations are for McCownGordon to “hand over the keys” of the Jones Center by January.
The next phase of work will see improvements to Logan Avenue Elementary which Woltje says is currently in the design phase. He is hopeful they will be putting the project out to bid in the very near future.
