The project hasn’t received official approval yet, but the process is underway to improve cell phone reception in eastern Lyon County and parts of western Coffey County.
The Lyon County Planning and Appeals Board has voted to recommend a new cell phone tower in the 2200 block of Road 130 west of Neosho Rapids. US Cellular has requested an agriculture conditional use permit for that property.
Lyon County Zoning Administrator Sam Seeley says the tower is designed to improve cell reception in Neosho Rapids, Hartford and nearby areas including parts of Coffey County.
Lyon County commissioners will take a closer look at the proposal in their action meeting April 29. They have the option of approving the project, rejecting it or sending it back to the Planning Board for more discussions.
