Kansas continues its economic recovery from coronavirus.
The Department of Labor is reporting a 3.7 percent unemployment rate for March, down slightly from the 3.8 percent rate in February. The March rate is up slightly from the 3.2 percent from March 2020, but Labor Secretary Amber Shultz says the economy performed nicely last month.
Locally, Emporia had a marginal increase from 3.3 percent in February to 3.4 percent in March. Lyon County went from 3.4 percent to 3.5 percent.
Areawide, Chase and Greenwood counties had modest increases. Morris County’s jobless rate stayed flat, while Coffey, Osage and Wabaunsee counties had slight decreases. Morris County has the area’s lowest unemployment rate at 2.8 percent, while Greenwood and Osage counties have the area’s highest unemployment rate at 3.6 percent.
