Emporia State University is going to Ohio for its new provost.
Dr. George Arasimowicz, Central State University’s dean of the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, has been named for the leadership position at ESU and will start this summer. President Allison Garrett says there were about 50 qualified people who applied, and Arasimowixcz stood out for several reasons.
Arasimowicz has an associate diploma in piano performance from Royal Conservatory of Toronto, a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Toronto, an honors bachelor of arts in English and history from Carleton University, a master of arts from McGill University and a doctorate from the University of California, San Diego.
Arasimowicz was one of four finalists for the position, including Cal State-Bakersfield dean of Business and Public Administration Dr. Angappa Gunasekaran; dean of Arts, Letters and Sciences at Southwest Minnesota State Dr. Aimee Shouse; and Eastern New Mexico-Portales president Dr. Jeff Elwell.
Garrett says the provost position is vitally important for a university, and the reason is its direct impact on education.
Current provost David Cordle retires in June.
