Longtime Emporia State professor Rob Catlett has special honors coming his way.
Catlett was named as the university’s Roe R Cross Distinguished Professor on Monday. It’s Emporia State’s highest faculty award.
Catlett is currently an associate professor of economics. He also directs the university’s Center for Economic Education and Center for Community Research. Catlett came to Emporia State in 1976 after receiving degrees from the University of Nebraska in 1974 and 1975. He tells KVOE News he’s humbled by the honor, especially given the number of top-quality professors at ESU.
The Roe Cross award has been bestowed on a professor every year since 1979. Honorees are chosen for demonstrating teaching excellence, professional activities, development of intellectual atmosphere, service to ESU outside the classroom and work as a student mentor. Winners get $1,000 for use on professional activities. They also serve as the commencement speaker for winter graduation activities.
