Now that light snow is pretty much over, we still have some winter weather to contend with this week.
Freeze warnings are also up areawide. Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are in a warning from 9 pm Tuesday to 10 am Wednesday. Chase and Greenwood counties are in a warning from 1-10 am Wednesday. Here’s TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers:
This follows light snow across the area that started around 4 am:
*KVOE studios: 2 inches
*Emporia Municipal Airport: 3.3 inches
*Logan and Weaver: 3 inches
*Americus: 2 inches
*Burlington: 2.5 inches
*Climax: 0.50 inches
*Lake Kahola: 2 inches
So far, only one injury crash has been reported and that led to minor injuries for an Emporia woman. The Kansas Turnpike Authority says 45-year-old Juana Hernandez lost control of her vehicle due to slick conditions and went through a ditch. She declined a hospital trip afterward.
The snowfall didn’t last long, making it to shortly after noon before it was all melted in Emporia.
Frost could return Wednesday night with overnight lows near freezing, but conditions get milder to close out the work week with lows in the 40s by Thursday night and highs in the 60s by Friday. Monday could see high temperatures above 80 degrees.
