Winter had vanished from the weather picture the last several weeks. It is making a return Tuesday.
The National Weather Service continues winter weather advisories for the area. Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are in an advisory until 10 am, while Greenwood County is in a separate advisory from 7-10 am. Anywhere from 1-3 inches of snow are possible, with isolated to scattered slick driving conditions especially for bridges, overpasses and intersections.
Freeze warnings are also up areawide. Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are in a warning from 9 pm Tuesday to 10 am Wednesday. Chase and Greenwood counties are in a warning from 1-10 am Wednesday. Overnight lows could dip as low as 25 degrees, killing crops and other sensitive outdoor plants. Emporia’s overnight low is predicted at 28 degrees.
