The Emporia High softball team was swept by Topeka High Wednesday in a doubleheader.
Topeka High won the first game 10-0. The Lady Spartans were shut out on a combined no-hitter, Nija Canady and Quincy Smith. Illinois signee Zoe Caryl hit a solo home run for Topeka High.
Topeka High won the 2nd game 27-8. Topeka High scored 8 runs in the 1st inning. Emporia High answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st. Topeka High added 2 runs in the 2nd and single runs in the 3rd and 5th inning to take a 12-2 lead
Emporia High scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, Maddyn Stewart drove in 3 runs with a double, to cut the deficit to 12-8.
Topeka High scored 15 runs in the 7th to put the game out of reach.
For Emporia High Gracie Gilpin was 5 for 5 with an RBI and run scored. Elleana Bennett was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI.
Emporia High Coach Aaron Hammond said it was not all bad.
The Lady Spartan softball team is now 6-6 for the season. They are scheduled to host Wamego on Friday.
