Residents who have lost loved ones due to coronavirus can now get financial assistance for funeral expenses.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency says formal paperwork must say deaths were attributed to COVID-19. Deaths must have happened in the United States after Jan. 20, 2020. Applicants can be US citizens, non-citizen nationals or qualified aliens.
Assistance will either be through direct deposit or a mailed check, depending on the applicant’s preference.
FEMA says there have been scammers offering to register people for funeral assistance. FEMA says those requests do not come from the agency and the government does not contact people before they register for financial aid.
