The Kansas City Royals opened their series in Detroit with a 6-2 win over the Tigers Friday night.
Andrew Benintendi and Ryan O’Hearn hit solo home runs to give the Royals a 2-0 lead. The Royals scored 4 runs in the 5th inning. Nicky Lopez drove in a run with a ground out. Whit Merrifield drove in a run with a single and Jorge Soler drove in 2 runs with a double.
Mike Minor was the winning pitcher going 5.2 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits with 9 strikeouts. 4 pitchers provided shutout relief.
The Royals and Tigers play again Saturday afternoon with Brady Singer on the mound for the Royals. The first pitch is set for 12:10p. Coverage on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM begins at 11:30a.
The Royals have made several roster moves Friday.
They have recalled Ryan O’Hearn from the alternate site and sent Kyle Isbel to the alternate site.
They have also placed Greg Holland on IL and called up pitcher Brad Brach.
