The Emporia Senior Center is “rebooting” its operations as the COVID-19 pandemic continues with low community numbers at this time.
The Senior Center is planning to resume bingo on June 1. It’s the first time in 15 months the Senior Center has been able to have that fundraiser available to the public. There will be limited concessions and drinks for those attending. People will need to wear masks and observe social distancing spaces.
The restart of bingo is the prelude to the full “reboot” June 7. Director Ian Boyd says all Senior Center services and activities will be offered from 9 am to 4 pm weekdays, although the building will be closed from noon to 1 pm.
Friendship Meals will not be served at the Senior Center at this time, and at this time there is no word on when those will resume. People need to call the Friendship Center, 620-340-8001, if they want a daily meal.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Boyd says the Senior Center has offered in-person services to around 1,700 seniors and their caregivers per month.
