Emporia city commissioners will be busy with two meetings Wednesday morning.
Commissioners start with a study meeting at 9:30 am. They will discuss a proposal from Bird to bring electric scooters to Emporia. The annual operating agreement with the Emporia Recreation Commission for the Jones Aquatic Center, recently approved by the Rec Commission, will see discussion. Board members will also continue their discussion about increasing fees for new water taps and will look at a new electronic sign for the Emporia Public Library. Before the meeting is done, commissioners will discuss a minor plat for the proposed travel plaza just west of US Highway 50 and Graphic Arts.
At 10 am, or as soon as the study meeting is done, commissioners launch into an adjourned action meeting from last week. Commissioners could well vote on the travel plaza minor plat. They also have several items pertaining to the Emporia Municipal Airport, including a Kansas Department of Transportation grant for design and planning stages of extending a runway over 50 feet and bids for numerous upgrades like edge lighting systems, guidance signs and the primary wind cone. In addition, commissioners could authorize beer gardens for the upcoming Unbound Gravel event.
Both meetings are in the Municipal Court Room.
