The Kansas City Royals outscored the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-6 Wednesday night.
The Royals built a 6-0 lead scoring 3 runs in the 1st inning, added a run in the 3rd inning, and scored 2 runs in the 4th inning.
The Pirates rallied to cut the deficit to 6-5 in the 5th inning.
The Royals answered with 3 runs in the 6th.
Jorge Soler was 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. Andrew Benintendi and Hunter Dozier each drove in 2 runs.
Royals manager Mike Matheney said players stepped up.
The Royals are off Thursday, they open a series at Minnesota Friday.
