Collection procedures for past due bills begin Monday for Evergy — which means the risk of service disconnections also begins early next week if customers can’t catch up.
On KVOE’s Morning Show this week, Evergy spokesperson Gina Penzig says a lot of customers have unfortunately fallen behind because of COVID-19, a brutally cold February or both.
Penzig directed people to www.evergy.com or to the 2-1-1 information phone number for details on different programs. She also went into depth on the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, which offers funding for past due rent and utilities for up to a year and it also offers help with up to three months of future rent assistance. There is no limit to the amount a resident can get, so people won’t have to choose between rent, gas or electric bills for past due amounts between April 2020 and April 2021.
People needing to take advantage of the Emergency Rental Assistance Program can call the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation at 785-217-2001 or go online to www.kshousingcorp.org.
People can also set up 12-month payment plans if they are behind and haven’t already done so. Evergy’s number is 800-383-1183.
