The Emporia Rescue Mission has hit one major fundraising goal and continues work towards another.
On KVOE’s Morning Show this week, Rescue Mission Director Lee Alderman said it has met the $65,000 goal for the annual Feinstein Challenge. This is important because it provides a dollar-for-dollar match for the general fund and operating expenses.
Alderman also updated the campaign to fully renovate the Abundant Harvest building at 1028 Whittier. He says the campaign has generated around $335,000, or about 60 percent of the campaign goal of $575,000. Renovations are already underway.
In the meantime, Abundant Harvest continues its drive-thru approach to its meals Monday and Wednesday evenings. Next week, Abundant Harvest will start having curbside food pantries through an effort by the Kansas Food Bank and Tyson Fresh Meats. The curbside food pantry will be available the second Tuesday of each month through April 2022, with hours from 1-2:30 pm or until the food is claimed.
The popular Free at 3 food giveaway is still on hold at this time, but Abundant Harvest continues its commodity giveaways on weekday mornings starting between 5:30 and 6 am.
