The Cleveland Indians powered past the Kansas City Royals 5-4 Wednesday night.
The Royals built a 4-0 lead on a Hunter Dozier home run, a Cleveland error, and a Jorge Soler double to drive in 2 runs.
Cleveland scored 3 runs in the 6th. There was a walk, a ruled hit batter, which was questioned by the Royals, a double, a walk, and a balk. There was also an argument with the home plate umpire that led to the ejections of Royals pitching coach Cal Eldred, manager Mike Matheney, and starter Brady Singer.
Cleveland tied the game with a solo home run in the 8th and took the lead with a solo home run in the 9th.
Royals manager Mike Matheney says frustration set in.
The Royals have now lost 4 in a row. The Royals and Indians wrap up their 4 game series Thursday afternoon with Danny Duffy on the mound for the Royals. The first pitch is set for 1:10. The game will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM.
There was a no-hitter thrown Wednesday in Major League baseball.
Baltimores John Means, a Gardner-Edgerton graduate, no-hit the Seattle Mariners in a 6-0 win for the Orioles. The third no-hitter in MLB this season.
Means struck out 12 and walked none. The only baserunner to reach against Means came in the third when Sam Haggerty struck out but reached on a wild pitch. Means faced the minimum 27 batters as Haggerty was erased on a caught stealing.
The lefty threw the Orioles’ first solo no-hitter since Jim Palmer no-hit the A’s, on August 13, 1969.
