The Emporia Rescue Mission’s move to the former Amend Girl Scout Center is, in a word, “progressing.”
That was the update from Rescue Mission Director Lee Alderman during a recent interview on KVOE’s Morning Show. According to Alderman they are hopeful they will be fully moved into the new facility within the next two months.
He says the only issue at this time, is that a few items needed for the building’s fire safety and suppression systems are currently on backorder.
The Rescue Mission received a conditional use permit for the facility thanks to a unanimous vote by Emporia City Commissioners back in February. The move comes as the mission is planning to sell its former home at 1119 Merchant to Kwik Shop.
The company is planning to expand its footprint in the local community with the development of a new service plaza which Alderman says will likely take up several lots in the area. Alderman says more movement is expected on that effort “in the not too distant future.”
